This refers to the TFSE's guidance to branch officers and workplace representatives on this subject. Contact the Branch Office for a copy. The publication which is in PDF format, should be relayed to all branch officers and workplace representatives to assist them in working with members who have either been invited to take part in, or have been subjected to, interviews under the new, but unagreed, procedures. The publication can also be relayed to individual members if branches feel it is appropriate and useful to do so. The guide contains a summary of the issues that are causing such concern, an explanation of the terminology used, a summary of the reasons why certain aspects of the new proposals are particularly problematic and, most importantly of all, a checklist of the things that BT managers are obliged to do in assessing performance and drawing up appraisals. It is hoped these checklists will be particularly useful for branch officers and workplace representatives in reassuring and discussing with members who have been subject to these unagreed procedures. If, as the booklet makes clear, managers are found to be in breach of any of the mandatory procedures that they have to act under in these circumstances, representations should be made to them directly with a copy to CWU headquarters. An individual letter to members outlining the union's concerns and pointing them to the existence of this guidance on the CWU website is in the process of being produced and should be delivered by the end of this week or the beginning of next.
